Hyundai Eon Facelift First Drive Overview

Hyundai Eon

Hyundai Eon Overview

Launched in 2011, the Hyundai Eon is one of the best-selling cars from the Hyundai stable. The car is aimed at the budget customers and is undoubtedly the most good-looking vehicle in its segment with amazing specs. Hyundai Eon has the best expressive face among all the cars in its segment, thanks to its fluidic design language. The tiny little car has flowing lines throughout its body and looks premium for the price it comes at.

The interiors of the Eon are pretty well-managed and do not feel claustrophobic. The plastic inside feels premium to touch and is of good quality. The huge amount of beige used inside the vehicle instantly makes the vehicle very premium to feel and the fluidic design language on the console of the vehicle makes the interiors look plush. Hyundai has installed multimedia system, in the form of CD MP3, and the system also gets Aux-in and USB ports, which are few things missing from most of the cars that fall above its segment.Apply car loan for Hyundai Eon

The Eon draws power from a small 814 cc petrol engine. The mill makes a maximum of 56 PS and never feels underpowered if moved only around the city traffic. The gear ratios are bit odd. The driver needs to constantly take care of keeping the car in the right tune of power. Often, the gearbox has to downshift to get more juice during those overtake manoeuvres. The Eon returns a phenomenal 21.1 km per litre, as per the ARAI.

Hyundai Eon Design & Look

Hyundai Eon is undoubtedly, a very nice looking hatch in the segment. The grille and bumper at the front feature a well-ordered translation of the aggressive design lines that are now part of every Hyundai car as of now. The grille is flanked by large pulled back headlamps on either side which adds a nice finishing to the front fascia. From the sides, the car is nearly identical to elder sibling Hyundai i10. The design engineers have given a rather solid looking shoulder that flows up to the rear, lending a nice sporty touch to the car. The Sports Edition launched in 2017 also comes with side body molding graphics on each side and roof rails, taking the sporty quotient to the next level.

At the rear end, the roof spoiler is visually striking and does their best to add to the overall style statement. The rear profile is nicely summed up by half-moon shaped tail lights that go well with the tail gate. The 1.0L version can be differentiated with the 800c variant with the new badging.Overall, it seems to be clear that Hyundai is not stingy when it comes to designing small hatchbacks. The car is still a head turner in its class but needs a more improved design to stay up in the competition.

Hyundai Eon Cabin & Comfort

Hyundai cars have always been known for being feature- heavy in their respective segments and this one is no different. The variant we tested was the Magna+ (O). It gets a 2-DIN music system with AUX, USB and iPod compatibility. The seats are two-tone with the ones at the front getting good side bolstering.

The dashboard is a combination of black and beige and it gets a cubbyhole above the glovebox as well. Everything falls easily to hand and the fit and finish is good for the price. The rear seating, however, is only good for two people, though. The front visibility from the driver’ seat is not all that great thanks to the sloping bonnet. However, this is not much of an issue as the dinky dimensions of the car and good view from the sides make it quite easy to manoeuvre in tight situations.

While the feature list may have been outstanding when the car was launched, its major rival, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 (which was facelifted last year) has now caught up and offers similar levels of equipment. However, the Alto K10 feels low-rent and the inside looks cheaper compared to the Eon.

Hyundai Eon Engine & Transmission

The engine of Eon is derived from the reliable Santro workhouse. Even though it is only a 3-cylinder engine, it stays peppy, and with the iRDE technology, the engine of Eon stays reliable and fuel efficient.Hyundai Eon carries an 814 cc, 3-cylinder, 9-valve SOHC engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine derives a maximum power of 55.2 bhp (56 PS) and 7.6 Kgm of peak torque. The engine of the LPG model is similarly powered but returns a better fuel efficiency than the petrol model. The Hyundai Eon can do a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in like 21.1 seconds and the compact hatchback can reach a top-speed of 135 km per hour. The 3-cylinder set-up does vibrate a bit, but that is ignorable given the performance of the vehicle. For more info on Hyundai Eon  visit Oksociety

The Eon comes with a fuel tank capacity of 32 litres while the LPG models get a tank capacity of 32 litres. Hyundai Eon gets an ARAI certificate of 21.1 km per litre, which is exceptional in its class. The car performs very well in the city road conditions but runs out of breath as soon as it sees open highways. Hyundai Eon’s dry weight is less than 800 kilos, with the frugal 3-cylinder engine. With 814 cc displacement and the maximum power of 55.2 bhp, the car can be stamped as a decently-powered hatchback. The 5-speed manual transmission sends the power to the front wheels. The hatchback does alright when it comes to the city traffic speed. Eon can touch the 100 km-per-hour mark from standstill in 21.1 seconds.

The iRDE engine can power the Eon to the speed of up to 135 km per hour. Being small, the engine is peppy and can zip through the road. The LPG version of the vehicle does get some load in form of LPG cylinder but even then, the Eon feels quick and gets its way easily around the traffic. Hyundai has fitted a 3-cylinder, 9-valve engine in the Eon. The engine generates a moderate 55.2 bhp at 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 7.6 Kgm at 4000 rpm. The power is transmitted through a 5-speed manual gearbox. With car weighing just 795 kg, Hyundai Eon never feels underpowered. The car is rated above its main rival Maruti Alto 800. With its small body and frugal engine, the Eon can negotiate most of the city roads with ease.

Being a 3-cylinder set-up, the Eon does make noises when ripped hard on open stretches. There are also noticeable vibrations when the car is tested to its limits. The car is not made for open highways and with the kind of engine it comes with, it justifies the price tag and its capability on city roads more than often.

As an entry level hatchback, the onus of giving good mileage naturally comes upon this car. The small 3-cylinder engine is tuned to give high-fuel efficiency. This makes Hyundai Eon deliver ARAI certified fuel economy of 21.1kmpl. The bigger 1.0L engine returns 20.3kmpl which is slightly lower but still high on mileage. Hyundai Eon Driving Dynamics

The handling of Eon, owing to its small wheelbase, is remarkably good for its segment. The short turning radius enables the car to do quick moves in traffic or narrow town roads. The Eon is perfect for city due its small size. Ride quality of the vehicle is decent. The gas-type shock absorbers provide optimum comfort for the occupants and the McPherson struts give the vehicle that stability. The steering is very light, making Eon well suited for Indian roads, but there is no or very little feedback from the steering wheel, making it a lifeless and boring car to drive.

Hyundai Eon comes with disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The brakes have good bite and can bring the car to a stop within a small distance. The car can come to standstill from 100 km per hour in 3.52 seconds, given the dry road conditions. There is good amount of body roll present due to soft suspensions, which are tuned to give maximum comfort to the occupants, but the set-up does make driving scary around the fast corners.

Hyundai Eon Braking & Safety

Hyundai has the best in class braking capability and it is really surprising. The car has a good bite force and comes to halt without and fuss and side movements. In terms of safety, the carmaker has given a reinforced body structure to counter huge force generated on impact. Other than that, you get driver side airbag, front fog lamps, engine immobilizer, central locking, child safety rear door locks, and remote keyless entry.

Hyundai Eon Round Up

We would recommend the Hyundai Eon for its ride, looks, and build quality because the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 – its largest rival (in terms of sales numbers) – matches the Hyundai on other counts like features and specifications. And as an added advantage, the K10 is cheaper too. But, Hyundai’s ace is its warranty. We know for any first time car buyer nothing conveys hassle free ownership as well as a strong warranty, and on this count with 2 years/unlimited warranty compared to Alto K10’s 2 years/40,000km, the Eon makes great sense.

The small hatch is basically available in 7 different variants. The base model D-Lite is priced at Rs. 3.33 lakh while the top spec Magna Plus can be purchased at the price tag of Rs. 4.66 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. Hyundai Eon is still nothing short of impressive and holds a prominent position among the league where Maruti Alto, Renault Kwid, and Datsun redi-GO are already competing against each other.

Maruti Suzuki Omni Overview

The Omni is one of the most iconic cars currently on sale in the Indian market. The car was launched back in 1985 and it was called the Maruti Van. It was changed to Omni in 1988. Maruti Suzuki Omni Design & Look

The looks of the Car are hardly appealing on the style quotient. The overall design of the car is flat or like a Geometric figure(particularly, a box) which can also be determined from the dimensions of the car(3370x1410x1640 mm). It has got 12-Inch cross ply tires which are definitely not sufficient to maintain the grip on the road. One of the unusual things about the car is its positioning of the engine which is mounted beneath the car which still gives a ground clearance of 165 mm. This basically allows using entire space of the car for utilizing the purpose. The Front includes two headlamps encapsulated in a contrasting bold border which further continues to the two horizontal lines surrounding the Maruti Suzuki symbol embossed at the center and a Black bumper integrated with side indicators.

The sideways shows a collection of straight lines running through the shape of the Car with no peculiar characteristic and a fuelling point on the right side bottom corner. The rear doors and windows slide for an opening which again helps to utilize the small spaces for boarding or departing from the vehicle. The rear includes taillamps, indicators and a similar bumper to the front only with integrated reverse lamps.

Maruti Suzuki Omni Cabin & Comfort

The micro-van is equipped available in 5- and 8-seater options. The car has a dual tone upholstery and sports the same old steering wheel. The 8-seater Omni is a bit cramped, while the 5-seater is specially designed for personal use. In detail, the car is packed with floor carpets, reclining front seats, a simple dashboard with cup holder and a large utility space for placing the items. There are sliding doors, which are very comfortable to use. The car has good headroom and legroom as well. Nothing changes in terms of the interiors. The car sports the same meters and a glove box with a lock added. The limited version comes with some features, including four speakers, a CD player supporting an auxiliary port and seat covers.

Maruti Suzuki Omni Engine & Performance

The 796cc, three cylinder, four stroke engine is placed under the front seats and transmits drive to rear wheels. Outputting 34bhp at 5000rpm and 59Nm at 2500RPM, the engine is a bit underpowered and is linked to a four-speed manual transmission. On the outside Omni features thermoplastic bumpers in front and rear, mud-flaps, outside rear view mirror in right, body graphics and clear lens headlamps. Inside, it gets reclining seats, adjustable front seat head restraints, sliding seat for driver, rear view mirror, floor carpet, steering lock, lockable glove compartment and seats belts in front & rear. The petrol powered mini-van is claimed to return ARAI rated fuel economy of 16.8km/l.Stopping power is derived from booster assisted disc and drum units. Maruti Suzuki Omni Driving Dynamics

The petrol engine feels under-powered, though, the refinement level is pretty decent. Fuel efficiency could be better. The vehicle gets unstable at high speeds. City driving dynamics is good. Ride is bouncy, and very uncomfortable on rough roads.Braking performance is mediocre. The MUV, except the front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, doesn’t get any electronic braking assistance.

Maruti Suzuki Omni Safety & Security

Safety features on the Maruti Suzuki van 2-speed windshield wiper, front ELR seat belts and rear static seat belts. The thin tyres compromise stability at speed.

Toyota Etios Facelift Overview & Test Drive

Toyota Etios Overview

The Toyota Etios has gone through yet another update. Since being launched in 2010 this is now the fourth iteration of the car and it looks like this time around, the Japanese automaker has really put its weight behind the vehicle. Despite always being priced a bit higher than its compact sedan rivals due to the extended length, it has been a decent seller in terms of numbers. Now, to keep continuity of volumes Toyota has worked on the strengths of the car to improve them. It gets some major cosmetic updates as well as an upgraded safety suite which has multiple first-in-segment features. But are these update s enough to finally propel this ‘giant among men’ into the big league? Read on to find out…Check for HDFC car loan.

Toyota Etios Exterior & Look

Like we have already mentioned above the facelift Etios sedan which was caught testing was covered in some heavy camouflage. Towards the front bumper the heavy camouflage indicates that the new Etios sedan will get a restyled front bumper, take a closer look and you will be able to notice that front grille looks smaller and gets a huge Toyota logo on top of the smaller four slats. The lower front bumper too looks contoured and most probably will get a redesigned fog lamp inserts. The rest of the front remains identical to the current car which is on sale including the headlamps.

The side profile does not get any camo which tell us that it has not received any changes. But towards the rear profile one can also notice the same camouflage as well which drops a hint that you that you might even notice changes towards the rear bumper as well. There is even a camouflage strip running towards the middle of the boot lid which is there most probably to hide the chrome strip there. While just like the front Toyota will definitely restyle the rear bumper as well.

Toyota Etios Interior & Space

The interiors of the new Etios are undoubtedly a notch above the outgoing one. The earlier version was unusually equipped with instrument binnacle placed on the top of the centre console. It was annoying for many people as they cannot see the information without road distraction. Though the new one also gets the same unit, they now feature semi-digital combi-meter display for the convenience of the driver. The car gets new black-ivory colour scheme while the styling of the rest of the dashboard remains identical to the outgoing version. The large windows and the beige upholstery inside makes the cabin looks bigger and roomier.

The sedan is a proper 5-seater and the legroom is amongst the best you can have under Rs. 10 lakh car. The seats are large and comfortable while one will also notice the alteration in the texture of the seat fabric. However, the use of rough plastic, especially the bottom of the dashboard seems to be really out of place. The carmaker has added a central armrest for more comfort. But, the addition of features such as automatic climate control, multi-information display and rear ac vents would have really boosted its image among the class.

Among the plus points of the car, ingress and outgress is amazing while the height adjust functionality and tilt-adjustable steering making the driving position more comfortable. The storage space is also abundant with plenty of cubby holes and bottle holders across the cabin. The infotainment system is still limited to the 2-Din audio system with Bluetooth and USB which is again a disadvantage given the budget cars are also coming up with touchscreen units. Toyota Etios Engine & Transmission

The Platinum Etios can be had with a 1.5-litre petrol or a 1.4-litre diesel. Both are four cylinder units and the former produces 88bhp/132Nm while the latter is good for 67bhp/170Nm. Both are only offered with a five-speed manual.

We got our hands on the more popular diesel model which uses the same engine from the more expensive Corolla Altis albeit in a lower state of tune. Firstly, it’s a noisy engine this and the clatter is quite audible in the cabin even in heavy t raffic. It has a lower torque figure than most of its contemporaries and has gained some weight over the outgoing model in view of the new safety standards but this has not really affected its performance. Toyota has worked to spread out the same and has given it an excellent mid-range which allows for ease of movement at low speeds as well as out on the highway. You can cruise at 100kmph at just 2000rpm while pottering around in traffic in third gear works just fine. It has an ARAI fuel efficiency figure of 23.59kmpl. They have also addressed the issue of the clutch action by making it lighter than the one in the outgoing model.

Toyota Etios Driving Dynamics

The company claims that it has worked upon the shock absorbers. While the ride quality is undoubtedly very good but isn’t different as compared to the earlier version. However, as the suspension has been tuned, one can expect a slight slandering into the corners. The car never feels less composed and remains stable regardless of the road conditions. The steering also feels nice and comfortable to operate.

Toyota Etios Braking & Safety

The performance of ABS+EBD brakes is confident and performs just as expected. One of the biggest talking points of the car in this version is the updates in the safety department. The sedan now comes equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mounts, keyless entry and driver seat belt warning as standard features. Move on to the top variants and you also get front fog lamps and reverse parking sensors. The carmaker has also reinforced the chassis so that it could perform better in case of crash. And this can be seen in the fact that Etios got 4-star safety rating in Global NCAP crash test.

Toyota Etios Cost in Ahmedabad

Toyota Etios On-Road Price in Ahmedabad ranges from 8,52,507 to 9,71,798 for variants Etios VX Platinum Edition and Etios VXD Platinum Edition respectively. Toyota Etios is available in 2 variants and 7 colours. Below are details of Toyota Etios variants price in Ahmedabad. Check for Etios price in Ahmedabad at Tryaldrive.

Toyota Etios Round Up

The updates will help the Etios sedan to survive in the Indian market for the next few years keeping the tough competition in mind. The Toyota Etios sedan may not be as popular as the Maruti Swift Dzire or the few other recently launched compact notchbacks but the Etios sedan surely provides a lot at this price point and we are sure the facelift variant too will bring some new surprises with it.

Currently, Toyota Platinum Etios is available in three different variants such as GX, V and VX. Its base trim GX is available at the price tag of Rs. 6.8 lakh for the petrol and Rs. 7.9 lakh for the diesel variant.
